Okay. The fixed travel plan is:

Chicago
San Diego
Toronto

The rest is a little more flexible, assuming I'm going to LA and Atlanta and not to Vegas on this trip (though I could, theoretically and bearing in mind I'm looking at a map with no real idea of distances, take a side trip to Vegas). Much as I would like to, I've been there before, I haven't been to Atlanta, and Mo and Avital want me in Atlanta. Speaking of which, girls, any chance of either a couch to sleep on or recommendations of hostels?

Georgia is close to Illinois, comparatively, considering California is on the other side of the country, and both are closer to Toronto. Would people recommend going to LA before San Diego, or before Toronto? And would a side trip to Vegas from California be feasible?

ETA: We have a plan! Chicago -> LA -> San Diego -> Vegas with Twiller and Frito -> Atlanta -> Toronto -> home.

Star? How are you getting from Chicago to LA?

Illinois and Georgia are pretty darn far apart, actually. Chicago's way up north, and Georgia's down in the Southeast.

Vegas is a day's drive from LA, so it'd be a pretty significant trek.

If you're wanting to hit all those places, a good order would be San Diego -> LA -> Vegas -> Chicago -> Toronto -> Atlanta. Big northern arc heading east.

Unfortunately, the Chicago, San Diego and Toronto stops are for cons, so I have to be there in that order. Anywhere else I go is to fill in empty time in between. :)

Nute, you're on crack. Vegas is about 5 hours from San Diego, or 4 from LA. Granted, that's without traffic (especially chancy from LA), but really it depends on when you leave.

Indeed. I've done a 24 hour trip to Vegas before. It's not a bad drive if you leave before traffic.

Flights from LA to LV start at, no kidding, $39 one way. Which is gas money basically.

Ah...crap. Slightly complicated thing for the Atlanta bit...I'm in Hawaii from July 1-28. Am figuring out the part for how I'm getting to TO atm, so keep me posted on when you were thinking for Atlanta...my couch (and by couch, I mean spare bed. I have four bedrooms afterall, may as well use them) is available when I am :)

Well, that works. :) Twiller has offered to drive me to Vegas from San Diego, so I'll be there briefly and then go on to Atlanta before Toronto. Which means... probably July 30 until August 2 or 3, if that works?

I live with my mom and my brother should be moving in in May, so I will not even have a couch for you, sadly :( (my mom is not so keen on couch guests. not even ME).

but I want to see you! I can entertain you if nothing else, although I do not know what my work scheduel will look like (the goos thing though is that business slows significantly in the summer).

Georgia is about a 15 to 18 hour non-stop drive from Chicago. Chicago to DC is about an hour and 15 minutes by plane. Florida is about two hours. Chicago to LA is about four hours by plane. Chicago to Portland is about 52 hours by greyhound bus. Chicago to Denver is about 18 hours by train. Chicago to New York City is about 18 to 24 hours on the greyhound bus.

Side trip depends on how you are going.

Apparently I'm driving with Frito and Twiller. :)

*twitches* That includes the California to Toronto to Chicago route? That should give you an idea of that distance. This is what it looks like with Atlanta. So if you're wanting Vegas, do Vegas when you drive through it on your way to Toronto...

No, no, just from San Diego to Vegas. The rest I'm doing on my own. *grins*

Ah. Well, if you need help figuring out how to do that the cheapest, let me know as I've taken most major forms of transport including bus, train, plane and car.

Er. Ignore that as I got when you're doing what very confused. Though Yahoo driving directions are pretty accurate in terms of time it takes and the length of the trip. (Though they can sometimes be wrong or goofy or use local names for things like routes. Problem for me when looking at directions when I know the name as Route 72 West and it is Golf Road, take a left.

Teleportation! Um. Flying. I need to double check my budget before I make concrete plans for Chicago- but it is seeming doable.

Hm. Let me know what flight you're going to be on, when you know, so I can try and get on the same one?

If you're going to be booking soon, that is. :D!

Aww... I've always wanted to see Vegas. It's stupidly cheap to get there from here, and I'm never sure why... however, I think I would regret lifting from my 'eating next year fund' any more for plane tickets.

Bah. Eating is overrated.

Invading Vegas with us is more fun.

(especially if Karen and I were to get "accidentally married"...)
