If I was, theoretically, planning to extend my trip to the States in July so I can take in San Diego Comic Con... two questions.

Do I have to pay if I don't want a four-day pass?

And what is the best way to get from DC to San Diego, bearing in mind I have three days to kill in between?

If you want to pre-reg, yeah, you have to pay for the four-day pass. IIRC, the only way to not get a four-day pass is to wait in the (long, on the first day, not so long if you get on the other days, though I don't know exactly how long from experience since I've always got the four-day passes*) line at the con. The four-day pass also gets you into preview night on Wednesday night.

*We don't always attend all four days of con, we just get them because, really, it's a lot more convenient that way.

And if it falls through, as long as it's before June 21 or whenever, I can cancel and get a refund. Right?

Um, yes. That should be how it goes.

Hrm.

I'd suggest you fly and spend the extra days either in San Diego or in DeeCee.

The US is _big_. Keep this in mind. It's not like your podunk island. ;)

*VOTES FOR BOSTON*

...if you're actually interested, we might be able to sort out some sort of transportation. Ping me at some point.

DC to Boston is doable by train, but I think it's about a 6 hour train ride. Maybe more, DEFINITLY not less.

Amtrak is comfy as hell though.

How much is the train ticket? *interested*

It looks like about 100 dollars US, one-way, from Union Station in DC to Boston, Massachusetts.

...would you hate me if I took up Jess and Jen's offer of Vegas instead? Because I am going to meet you in DC, but they're not coming...

*is trying to choose*

As people have said, if you're pre-registering then yeah, all four days. If you're willing to wait in lines then you can buy them one at a time.

If you're willing to take the chance that it might not amount to anything, there is a not terrible possibility that I might have a badge to lend out for a day or so. I can't promise but we do usually have an extra badge at the booth.

For travelling, fly. It's the only sane way to get across the country.

KATE! Holy hell. Fly to San Diego. Or you can even fly to Vegas, we'll take care of you, and then you can do the five hour drive to San Diego or take a commuter flight back to San Diego.

BUT COME SEE US! Jess and I will get you tickets to see SHOWS. See? We win. (VEGAS)

...you are a wicked temptress.

Cirque du Soleil tickets?

I don't have a UK driving licence, let alone a US one. Would it be cheaper to fly to San Diego from there or get a bus or something?

With gas what it is, I'd say check the ticket prices. It's a five or six hour drive to San Diego I believe, so you might just prefer flying.
And I can get you a ticket to KA. I'd have to use up every comp I have to get you to the other shows, and O is always frickin' sold out. Jess can probably work out a Le Reve ticket, and of course we can take you to visit backstage.
Sorry, I'm all excited with the prospect.

*grins* KA will be just fine. It's Cirque, dude. And backstage, yay!

When I get home from work, I will figure out the final arrangements and book my travel.

I don't know what plane fares from Vegas to San Diego are - but train is about 75 US dollars. (approximatly) - but also about 9 hours between bus and train.

Greyhound (the bus only) is about 50 dollars, and about an hour longer.
