Penance

In later years, he would remember it in excruciating detail. By way of penance, he had put the memory into a Pensieve, so that he could remind himself whenever hindsight might be blurring.

The final battle. Ron and Hermione incapacitated - not dead, but terribly injured - Ron crippled, Hermione blinded. The DA scattered around the room - some unconscious, some bleeding, some dead, horribly few still up and fighting.

And then Neville. Gryffindor hero Neville, who had been the bravest of them all in the end. The way he'd died... what he'd achieved...

Harry could never let himself forget.
