(no subject)

Useless fact of the day: the Sega designers in charge of creating a rival for SuperMario chose Sonic... because they liked the word hedgehog. <3333

Does anyone know where the term "Mary Sue" came from? I don't mean the concept, I know all about that. But why do we call them Mary Sues?

Also, could someone please give me or link me to a complete list of the Sandman spin-off comics?

Im not sure....

...if it helps though, I always thought it came from teenie american films.

Y'know, the fact that the perfect girl in them always used to have a hyphened name like mary-sue, sue-ellen etc etc.

I can ask round for you though...

If I recall correctly...

...it came from an actual Star Trek fan-fiction, written as a parody way-back-when. The title character "Mary Sue" illustrated all the worst characteristics of an OFC at the time so the name stuck.

Hello sweetie.

I've been dead for a fortnight but now I'm back and I'd like a Ron Weasley/Mike from MST3K slashy thing please. A threesome with Tom Servo would be acceptable.

Thank you xx

I've never seen MST3K! Otherwise I'd do it...

I think I can list most of 'em.

The Dreaming. Ran for a while. Lots of issues.
The two Death mini-series, Time of Your Life and the High Cost of Living.
Lucifer - the original mini-series, and then it turned into a comic book.
Sandman presents.. which may still be running? Mini-series based on the Sandman canon - there was a John Constantine One, a Merv Pumpkinhead one... Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Dreams And Were Afraid To Ask (which I enjoyed.. it was about the dreaming).
The Lil' Endless Storybook, for mature readers of all ages.
The New Female Endless Manga Book by Jill Thompson, arriving at a comic book store near you in July.
There's the eleventh Sandman book, Dreamhunters.
The quotable Sandman.
Endless Nights, which is coming out... God knows when.

Then there are a few Endless stories, still uncollected, written by Gaiman that appear in Vertigo collections.. like Vertgo Edge, amd X, and Winter's Edge, etc, etc, etc.

I *think* that's it.

Don't quote me on this but I read somewhere that the "first" Mary Sue was one from the sixties published in some sci-fi zine that was named, well, Mary Sue... (Star Trek?)
