Okay. The fixed travel plan is:

Chicago
San Diego
Toronto

The rest is a little more flexible, assuming I'm going to LA and Atlanta and not to Vegas on this trip (though I could, theoretically and bearing in mind I'm looking at a map with no real idea of distances, take a side trip to Vegas). Much as I would like to, I've been there before, I haven't been to Atlanta, and Mo and Avital want me in Atlanta. Speaking of which, girls, any chance of either a couch to sleep on or recommendations of hostels?

Georgia is close to Illinois, comparatively, considering California is on the other side of the country, and both are closer to Toronto. Would people recommend going to LA before San Diego, or before Toronto? And would a side trip to Vegas from California be feasible?

ETA: We have a plan! Chicago -> LA -> San Diego -> Vegas with Twiller and Frito -> Atlanta -> Toronto -> home.

Star? How are you getting from Chicago to LA?

Illinois and Georgia are pretty darn far apart, actually. Chicago's way up north, and Georgia's down in the Southeast.

Vegas is a day's drive from LA, so it'd be a pretty significant trek.

If you're wanting to hit all those places, a good order would be San Diego -> LA -> Vegas -> Chicago -> Toronto -> Atlanta. Big northern arc heading east.

Ah...crap. Slightly complicated thing for the Atlanta bit...I'm in Hawaii from July 1-28. Am figuring out the part for how I'm getting to TO atm, so keep me posted on when you were thinking for Atlanta...my couch (and by couch, I mean spare bed. I have four bedrooms afterall, may as well use them) is available when I am :)

Georgia is about a 15 to 18 hour non-stop drive from Chicago. Chicago to DC is about an hour and 15 minutes by plane. Florida is about two hours. Chicago to LA is about four hours by plane. Chicago to Portland is about 52 hours by greyhound bus. Chicago to Denver is about 18 hours by train. Chicago to New York City is about 18 to 24 hours on the greyhound bus.

Side trip depends on how you are going.

Teleportation! Um. Flying. I need to double check my budget before I make concrete plans for Chicago- but it is seeming doable.

Aww... I've always wanted to see Vegas. It's stupidly cheap to get there from here, and I'm never sure why... however, I think I would regret lifting from my 'eating next year fund' any more for plane tickets.
