My "okay, the boys are hobbits" reaction wasn't so strong as my "...okay, they LIVE in the SHIRE" reaction, but then, that's not so different.
(Possibly I failed to compare them to hobbits because when I read what I read of Eye of the World, I was still looking for DT parallels everywhere and promptly mapped them as having the Roland-Bert-Alain dynamic (leader, ka-mai, and strong quiet one), and gunslingers kind of cancel out hobbits in my brain.)
Ha! They do start out as such hobbity characters, I agree. It changes (believe me).
Wheel of Time is the one book series that I actually buy the day it comes out because I want to read it that much (I buy Harry Potter so that I can read it before I can spoiled). I love the series and the characters and... I'm really interested in how you like them.
